UNDER 25'S JAZZ IMPROVISATION WORKSHOPS - 2012

Dear Jazz Lover,

The aim of the Victorian Under 25’s Jazz Improvisation Workshops is to foster an interest in, and enable musicians to keep alive TRADITIONAL JAZZ.  The spirit of improvisation and creativity within disciplined parameters such as in this art form can be a very rewarding experience for both musicians and listeners, regardless of age, but education is the key.  The music in this country has a distinctly Australian character and has a history of its own, due to the passing down of knowledge from generation to generation and by musicians regularly having “jam” sessions at festivals and conventions.  To continue the growth and development of this unique art form, we must enable young musicians to discover the joys of playing together and appreciating our past.  With these aims, the VICTORIAN UNDER 25’S JAZZ IMPROVISATION WORKSHOPS are conducting workshops with well known and respected jazz musicians who can pass on their knowledge to the stars of tomorrow.

The workshops are open to young musicians under the age of 25 who are proficient with their instrument and able to play scales and arpeggios.  The course commences on Saturday 24th March 2012 from 1.00 p.m. until 4.00 p.m. and continues to the 16th June 2012, at a cost of $60.00 plus $15.00 for Victorian Jazz Archive Student Membership – Total Cost $75.00.  Music is provided, so all that is required is a musical instrument and an interest in making friends and discovering the joys of jazz.  Some of our finest young musicians, respected world wide, are former students of “youth workshops”, so this is a great opportunity for anyone with the ability and interest.  The workshops are held at the Victorian Jazz Archive, 15 Mountain Highway, Wantirna (Melway Map Ref. 63 C8)

As course convenor, I will be happy to answer any queries and give further information.

Yours sincerely,

Marina Pollard
